— -- Donald Trump released a video statement Friday in the aftermath of the Dallas shooting, calling for police and citizens to "work together" and saying that the recent police-involved shooting deaths of two black men, which sparked outrage, show "how much work we have to do."

In the video, released by his campaign, Trump lamented the shooting in Dallas, where five officers were killed and seven others wounded by what police said was a lone gunman who was bent on killing white cops and was upset about the recent police-involved shootings.

"They are not just police officers, they are mothers and fathers husbands and wives sons and daughters and they’re all on my mind today. They’re on everybody’s mind," Trump said, adding that he met with some members on a recent campaign trip to the Lone Star State.

Trump also mentioned the two men killed in officer-involved shootings earlier in the week -- whose deaths lead to the protest in Dallas.

"The deaths of Alton Sterling in Louisiana and Philando Castile in Minnesota also make clear how much work we have to do to make every American feel that their safety is protected," he said.
