Videos appear to show Iranian missile nearly hitting US F/A-18 fighter jet
Videos circulated online by Iranian state media appear to show a missile nearly striking a U.S. F/A-18 fighter jet flying over Iran.
In a post to X on Thursday, the Iranian state outlet PressTV said the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) had "successfully targeted" an F/A-18 flying over Chabahar, Iran. It was not immediately clear when the incident took place.
The videos, which have been geolocated to Chabahar, appear to show the U.S. fighter flying away after missile detonates behind it.
No damage to the jet was visible in the videos.
U.S. Central Command said in an X post that no fighter jets have been shot down by Iran. But a source familiar with the matter, while not confirming the authenticity of the videos, told ABC News that an F/A-18 in the area did narrowly dodge an Iranian surface-to-air missile over southern Iran in recent days.
In a separate incident last week, an F-35 stealth fighter made an emergency landing.
A person familiar with the incident said the F-35 was believed to have been struck by Iranian fire, marking the first time that an American military aircraft involved in the air operations over Iran had been hit.
