Virginia Firefighters Help Save Puppies by Giving Them Oxygen

— -- A trio of puppies was saved Monday after firefighters rescued them from a burning building and then gave them oxygen using a special mask, officials said.

The incident unfolded at 2:30 p.m. when the Henrico County Division of Fire responded to a report of smoke coming from a garage.

Inside, they found a small fire that was quickly put out as well "a small puppy in a pen near the door," the agency said in a statement.

"Outside the firefighters placed the puppy on oxygen by way of a special pet oxygen mask," the department said.

While the first puppy was receiving treatment, two others were found inside and "each of them was having significant difficulty breathing."

The puppies were in bad shape, so rescuers rushed them to the hospital "while firefighters attended to them," the department said.

"Upon arrival all three puppies were given emergency treatment and their condition improved," according to the department.
