Woman bitten by alligator while swimming in Florida river: Officials

A woman survived after being bitten by an alligator while swimming in a river in Florida, officials said.

The woman was in the Silver River in Marion County, just south of Gainesville, when she was attacked on the arm on Saturday, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission said.

Good Samaritans rescued her from the water and she was taken to a hospital, according to the FWC. Her condition was not clear.

Trappers responded to the scene and later found and removed a 9-foot 8-inch long alligator, the FWC said.

The Silver River has since reopened to the public, county officials said.
