Experts share age-by-age book picks to help kids fall in love with reading
Reading doesn't have to feel like homework, especially when the right books are involved.
That's the idea behind LINC, short for Literacy in Community, a New York City–based nonprofit working to address the literacy crisis by supporting families early, starting from birth through age 5.
Laura Walsh, chief program officer of LINC, joined "Good Morning America" to share how small, joyful reading rituals can make a big difference and to spotlight books kids actually want to read.

"Magnolia Wu Unfolds It All" is a chapter book about friendship and community, a great first "big kid book" for our 3rd and 4th grade readers, as well as engaging enough for our middle schoolers. The book is set with a backdrop of New York City and incorporates mystery and adventure! It received a Newbery Honor in 2025.
