Kate Middleton: Timeline of her cancer diagnosis

Eight months after announcing her cancer diagnosis, Kate stepped out in her first public engagement.
Kate joined William in Southport, England, the site of a knife attack at a local dance school in July that left three children dead and nine others injured.

Kate and William met with first responders as well as mental health health professionals working to support community members after the attack, which took place at a Taylor Swift-themed event.
Nearly one year after undergoing the abdominal surgery that resulted in a cancer diagnosis, Kate returned to the spotlight in a major way, hosting her annual Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey.

Kate -- wearing a red coat accented with a black bow and black boots -- was joined by her family at the service, which focused this year on the themes of love and empathy, according to Kensington Palace.

The full service, titled, \"Royal Carols: Together at Christmas,\" airs on Christmas Eve in the United Kingdom, as it has done every year since 2021, when Kate first launched what has now become a royal Christmas tradition.
Kate joined William, their kids and other members of the royal family as they walked to church at Sandringham on Christmas morning, following royal tradition.

Kate, dressed in green, smiled and greeted fans as the royal family members walked into St Mary Magdalene's church.
Last year, Kate's appearance at the Christmas morning service would mark her last official public appearance before undergoing abdominal surgery and then, several months later, announcing her cancer diagnosis.
Kate shared in a message on social media that her cancer is in remission, writing, “It is a relief to now be in remission and I remain focused on recovery.\"
“As anyone who has experienced a cancer diagnosis will know, it takes time to adjust to a new normal. I am however looking forward to a fulfilling year ahead,” she added. “There is much to look forward to.”

Kate's update came shortly after she completed her first royal engagement of 2025, a surprise visit to The Royal Marsden, the hospital in London where she had been treated, according to Kensington Palace.

At the hospital, of which she is now royal patron, along with William, Kate met with hospital staff and patients, telling one person undergoing chemotherapy, \"It's really tough. It's such a shock.\"
