This was the first Oscar nomination for Mexican actress Marina de Tavira, who plays Sra. Sofia, the employer to best actress nominee Yalitza Aparicio's character Cleo in \"Roma.\" Director Alfonso Cuaron pulled from his own life to develop the characters in this film and has said that 44-year-old Tavira's character is based off his own mother. De Tavira has been acting in movies since she was 25.

This is Emma Stone's third Academy Award nomination. The 30-year-old actress, who began her movie career at 19, was previously nominated for her roles in 2017's \"La La Land\" and 2015's \"Birdman.\" In \"The Favourite,\" she plays the manipulative Abigail, who's battling with her cousin -- fellow category nominee Rachel Weisz -- to be the queen's favorite in this 18th-century period piece. She won in 2006 for \"The Constant Gardener.\" Weisz plays Sarah in \"The Favourite,\" the longtime friend and companion of Queen Anne, who fights with Emma Stone's character to maintain the top spot.
