“We like singing, we like performing and we like performing together … It’s so surreal to see our group get so much hype and so much buzz on social media,” the Devil Clefs president and ASU junior Alexa Siegler told “Good Morning America.”

Siegler added that the group only practiced for about 15 minutes prior to the filming of the video in the stairwell of the school’s music building. The 18-member Devil Clefs -- most of whom aren’t music majors -- chose the location because of the good acoustics. A member of the group created the arrangement herself.

Siegler emphasized that she and her fellow members “weren’t expecting” the social media attention and the Devil Clefs' journey to internet fame started with an unexpected collaboration on TikTok.

During a campus concert competition hosted by TikTok where the Devil Clefs were performing, TikTok and social media star Josette Pimenta took a video with the singing group and gave them a shout-out on her verified account.

From then on, the internet took notice of the college students' talent.

“People are like ‘Oh (the Devil Clefs) should put out an album,’ ‘Oh (the Devil Clefs) should perform some Christmas songs’ … It’s so cool to see that we have fans who want to hear more of us,” Siegler said.
