Daughtry to replace 3 Doors Down on tour amid Brad Arnold's cancer treatment
Daughtry is taking over for 3 Doors Down on tour this summer.
The rock band shared the news in an Instagram post May 15.
"As many of you know, our friend Brad Arnold from Three Doors Down is currently facing a serious health challenge. First and foremost, our thoughts and full support are with Brad and his loved ones during this time," the band wrote in the post's caption.
"We’ve been asked to step in for Three Doors Down on the upcoming dates of the Creed Tour while Brad focuses on his health and healing," the band continued. "It's an honor to help carry the torch for a band and a frontman we respect so deeply. We'll do everything we can to bring energy, love, and gratitude to every stage just as Brad would."
Brad Arnold, the lead singer of rock band 3 Doors Down, previously announced on May 7 that he was diagnosed with Stage 4 cancer.
"Got some not so good news for you today," Arnold said at the time in a video shared to social media, as well as to the 3 Doors Down social media accounts. "I've been sick a couple of weeks ago and then went to the hospital and got checked out and had actually got the diagnosis that I had a clear cell renal carcinoma, that it metastasized into my lungs and it's Stage 4, and that's not real good."
According to the National Cancer Institute, clear cell renal carcinoma is the most common type of kidney cancer in adults. About 80% of all renal cell carcinoma cases are clear cell renal carcinoma, or ccRCC, which may also be referred to as conventional renal cell carcinoma.
People with clear cell renal carcinoma may experience no noticeable symptoms but may also exhibit symptoms such as a fever, pain, a lump in the side, tiredness, blood in the urine, or weight loss. This type of kidney cancer may run in families and is associated with individuals who have a genetic condition called Von Hippel-Lindau syndrome and other hereditary conditions.
Treatments for clear cell renal carcinoma may include surgery like thermal ablation or cryosurgery, immunotherapy, radiation and targeted therapy.
Arnold, 46, said in his May 7 video that his recent diagnosis would impact 3 Doors Down, which had been scheduled to perform in the Summer of '99 Tour alongside fellow bands Nickelback, Creed, Vertical Horizon and more, starting in July.
"It is gonna force us to cancel our tour this summer, and we're sorry for that," Arnold said at the time.
"And I'd love for you to lift me up in prayer every chance you get, and uh, [I] say it's time for me to maybe go listen to ... 'Not My Time' a little bit, right? Thank you guys so much," he added, referencing the band's 2008 single from their eponymous album.
Arnold, along with Todd Harrell and the late Matt Roberts, is one of the founding members of 3 Doors Down, which formed in Mississippi in 1996.
