Film director Michael Mann accidentally shot himself in the leg Saturday while holstering a handgun at a gun range in West Los Angeles, law enforcement sources told ABC News.
The incident occurred Oct. 31 at a members-only indoor shooting range, where Mann was holstering a .45-caliber handgun when it accidentally discharged, striking him in the left thigh, according to sources.
"On Saturday, at a gun range, a weapon accidentally discharged while holstered resulting in a superficial injury to film director Michael Mann. He was treated and is being released," Mann's publicist said in a statement to ABC News.
The Los Angeles Police Department said officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 11100 block of Missouri Avenue around 4 p.m. local time. Responding officers determined the shooting was accidental and Mann's injury was not life-threatening, according to law enforcement sources.
Gun range staff offered medical aid before paramedics transported Mann to a local hospital in stable condition, sources said.
In a statement to ABC News, the LAPD confirmed the shooting was accidental.
"The subject was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. An injury report was completed," the department said.
Mann is known for directing films including "Heat," "Collateral" and "Ferrari."
