Mark Hamill explains why he's finally hanging up Luke Skywalker's lightsaber for good

As far as Mark Hamill is concerned, we've seen the last of Luke Skywalker in "Star Wars."

Having first been introduced in 1977's "A New Hope," the character's story came to an end with 2019's “The Rise of Skywalker," completing a nine-film arc that spanned more than four decades.

"Oh, I can't imagine that, no," Hamill, 68, told Entertainment Weekly when asked if he'd ever return to the universe again. “I had a beginning, middle and end."

Hamill called his character's farewell in the latest movie “bittersweet" and said joining George Lucas on this journey gave him “far more than I ever expected."

“I'm full of gratitude for what it has given me and my career but I don't want to be greedy," he added. “There are still so many more stories to tell and so many great actors to tell them, they don't need me."

One such story is the Disney+ series “The Mandalorian," of which Hamill is a big fan.

“It sort of gets back to the basics of George envisioning it as a Western in space," he noted of the show.

“With ‘The Mandalorian,' they can concentrate more on the characters and the storytelling," he gushed, giving it the Hamill seal of approval. “I think it's excellent."
