Matthew McConaughey paid a visit to his hometown of Uvalde, Texas, just days after the tragic mass shooting at a local elementary school on May 24 that left at least 19 children and two teachers dead.
While the Oscar-winning actor, who shared a passionate message in the aftermath of what is now the second-deadliest school shooting in U.S. history, hasn't shared details about the trip, Rep. Tony Gonzales, who represents the district where Uvalde is located, shared a photo of him and McConaughey meeting with locals.

"Appreciate Uvalde native Matthew McConaughey helping us heal."
In the wake of the shooting at Robb Elementary School, McConaughey, who was born and grew up in Uvalde, shared a social media post in which described gun violence in America as "an epidemic we can control" and urged politicians, regardless of their political party, to realize "we all know we can do better."
"We are failing to be responsible for the rights our freedoms grant us," he added. "We cannot exhale once again, make excuses, and accept these tragic realities as the status quo."
