— -- Amy Schumer was so flattered to be offered the position of "Daily Show" host that she cried.

However, the comedian told Howard Stern during a visit to his Sirius XM radio show today why she turned it down after a lot of careful contemplation.

"It felt like it would be betting against myself," she said. "OK, this way I'm secure and I know I'll make [money] and I'll have this job... but I'm like, 'No. I'm gonna bet on myself that I can do more.'"

Schumer, 34, currently has her own Comedy Central show, "Inside Amy Schumer," and an upcoming film, "Trainwreck," that she wrote and stars in. Though she met with Jon Stewart for a slice of pizza to discuss the job ("I asked if it was fun," she noted) Schumer, who admitted it would have been nice to be able to hire her family members and work with them, said that the stability of the gig made her nervous.

"I just pictured all the fittings -- all the blazers I would have to wear," she joked. "I was like, 'I don't want to do that!'"

Plus, she added, Trevor Noah, the comedian Comedy Central ultimately hired to be the new host, is a great fit.

"If I heard that I was hosting 'The Daily Show,' I'd be like, 'Oh, give me a f***ing break,'" she said. "Trevor will be so much better at it than I could have ever been."
