Hulu's "Conversations with Friends" takes "it's complicated" to a whole new level.

The adaptation of Sally Rooney's debut novel, from the same team that brought audiences the 2020 miniseries "Normal People," follows the intersecting relationships between four people over a span of 12 episodes.

The cast includes actors Alison Oliver and Sasha Lane, who play best friends and exes Frances and Bobbi, and Joe Alwyn and Jemima Kirke, who play Nick and Melissa, the married couple with whom Frances and Bobbi become entangled.

The actors recently sat down with ABC Audio to chat about the upcoming series.

"I was really interested in kind of, I guess, the dynamic between these four characters and how, you know, when one shifts how it affects all the others," Oliver said, describing what drew her to the story.

It's a four-way affair of sorts, which Alwyn and Oliver described as "a mess."

"I guess it's a really productive 'love mess,' in a way," Oliver said.

One thing's for sure -- the show is a conversation starter. So what conversations are the cast hoping to spark among viewers once the series finally debuts on May 15?

"I hope maybe they're, like, sitting with their partner and they're like, 'Would you ever...?' And I just want to see how that one unfolds," Lane said.

"I would like to see people have the F***, Kill, Marry conversation after they watch this," Kirke added with a laugh.

"Conversations with Friends" debuts Sunday, May 15, on Hulu.

Hulu subscription plans start at $6.99 per month, and there is a bundle offer featuring Hulu, Disney+ and ESPN+ for $13.99 per month.
