Dwayne Johnson delays sneaker launch 'out of respect for Jacob Blake'
Add Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson to the list of celebrities reacting to the police shooting of Jacob Blake in Kenosha, Wisconsin, on Sunday.
Johnson was to debut his new sneaker collaboration with Under Armour on Thursday, but posted to social media that he was rescheduling it, "Out of respect to Jacob Blake & his family."
The actor and entrepreneur added, "Unbelievable we're here again. Shot 7xs. In the back. In front of his kids. There's no progress without humanity."
On Wednesday, the NBA announced all three playoff games would be rescheduled after the Milwaukee Bucks refused to take to the court for their first-round playoff series against the Orlando Magic. "We're tired of the killings and the injustice," Bucks guard George Hill told ESPN.
The WNBA announced its three regular season games Wednesday would also be postponed, and four MLB teams -- the Milwaukee Brewers, the Seattle Mariners, the San Francisco Giants and the Los Angeles Dodgers -- announced that they would not play Wednesday.
"Given the pain in the communities of Wisconsin and beyond following the shooting of Jacob Blake, we respect the decisions of a number of players not to play tonight," MLB said in a statement.
Similarly, tennis player Naomi Osaka announced that she would not compete in her scheduled semifinal match at the 2020 Western & Southern Open on Thursday. The U.S. Tennis Association later released a statement that, along with the ATP Tour and WTA, it will "recognize this moment in time" by pausing the event.
ESPN reported that the NHL will not hold playoff games Thursday either, and that at least three MLB games had been canceled, too.
