Prince Harry is sharing new details about his decision to move his family back to England, and whether he wants to reconcile with his brother, Prince William, and his father, King Charles III.

When asked in a new interview with GQ whether he grieves the complicated relationship with his dad and brother, Harry replied, "Yes, of course."

"Some people don't want it to work out. I want it to work out," Harry said in the interview published Tuesday, adding that he finds the issue of family differences a "massively relatable issue."

"With everything else that's going on in the world, the most important thing is to reconcile— that's the key point," he said. "Scars stick around forever. But what your perception is, and what your mindset is to those things that have happened, letting go of the past. That's something that I would encourage everybody to do."

When asked Tuesday for further clarification on Harry's response that "some people don't want to work it out," a spokesperson for the duke told ABC News he was not referring to his own family members.

“It was absolutely not intended as a swipe at his brother or any other member of his family. The comment was made in a general context and was not directed at his family in any way,” the spokesperson said.

Harry, 42, has had a strained relationship with his brother and father since at least 2020, when he and his wife Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, stepped away from their senior royal roles and moved to California.

Shortly after leaving his senior royal role, Harry described a strained relationship with some royal family members, particularly his once-close brother, in a tell-all interview with Oprah Winfrey and later a Netflix docuseries.

Harry's 2023 memoir "Spare" -- which described family tensions, including a physical fight between Harry and William -- appeared to widen the distance between Harry and his father and brother, the heir to the British throne.

Harry, Meghan and their two children, Archie and Lilibet, are not known to have seen Charles or William in person since moving back to the U.K. from California in August.

The last time Harry and William are known to have been in each other's company was in August 2024, when they both attended their uncle's funeral.

Charles saw Harry and his family in July, marking the first time the king had seen Meghan, Archie and Lilibet in person in four years.

Harry said that when it comes to moving his family back to England, he wanted to "be closer" to family and give his kids, ages 5 and 7, the experience of living in the U.K.

"Being able to put the kids in a British school has meant a lot to me. I didn’t know how important it was to me," he said. "I always thought it was going to be something that we would try and do, but now they’ve been in school for two weeks. They’re loving it and it’s just giving them a whole different experience."

Harry added of the family's decision to move, "This wasn’t something that we planned for a long time. It’s something that we’ve thought about and we’ve considered. But for us, when certain stars align and it’s clear that this should or probably will end up being the case, then we lean into that."

The Sussexes have not shared publicly where in the U.K. they are living, nor how long they intend to stay.

Harry and Meghan, who remain private citizens and not working royals, made their first joint public appearance last week in Nottingham, visiting community organizations.
