As the high-protein craze continues to sweep the nation, from social media recipes to quick service restaurant menus, Starbucks has officially added its own iteration to its coffeehouses.

The new Protein Cold Foam, plus a new line of Protein Lattes that are made with protein-boosted milk, hits menus Monday, which Starbucks first announced on Sept. 2, 2025.

The new protein beverages, which the Seattle-based coffee company first announced it was testing earlier this year, are part of CEO Brian Niccol's turnaround strategy to drive innovation and modernize the menu.

"As we continue to get back to Starbucks, we’re focused on modernizing our menu with innovative, relevant, and hype-worthy products that will resonate with our customers," Tressie Lieberman, the company's global chief brand officer, said in a statement. "Our new protein beverages tap into the growing consumer demand for protein in an innovative, premium and delicious way that only Starbucks can deliver."

The new drinks, according to Starbucks, will deliver approximately 15 to 36 grams of protein, per grande or 16-ounce beverage.

The new protein cold foam will be available in a variety of flavors, including a new banana flavor, vanilla, sugar-free vanilla, chocolate, matcha, salted caramel and brown sugar, as well as plain. Seasonal flavors include pumpkin and pecan.

Both new protein menu items will be available in U.S. and Canada Starbucks locations.

Starbucks said its current version of the frothy foam topping has seen a rapid rise in popularity with 23% year-over-year growth.

The current cold foam is used in one out of every seven beverage orders, per Starbucks.

An earlier version of this story was first published on Sept. 2, 2025.
