Storms expected to bring rain to NYC for New Year's Eve

If you're ringing in the new year in Times Square in New York City, don't forget to bring your raincoat along with those 2025 party glasses.

Here's what you need to know for your New Year's Eve weather forecast across the U.S.:

New Year's Eve day

Rain and snow are hitting the Midwest on this New Year’s Eve day.

Rain is falling from Chicago to Columbus, Ohio, on Tuesday morning, which could be followed by some light snow in Chicago in the afternoon and evening.

One to 3 inches of snow is expected Tuesday in northern Indiana, Ohio and parts of southern Michigan.

Temperatures in the East will be 5 to 15 degrees above average on Tuesday. It’s forecast to reach 40 degrees in Cincinnati; 71 in New Orleans; near 80 in Orlando, Florida; 66 in Atlanta; 62 in Washington, D.C.; and the low 50s in New York City.

Midnight

More than 1 million people are expected to ring in 2025 in Times Square in New York City.

For those heading to watch the ball drop, the rain will start around 7 or 8 p.m.

By midnight, it'll be raining or drizzling in Times Square, with lightning possible, and the temperature will be about 49 degrees.

As the ball drops, there’s a chance for snow in Detroit, Cleveland and Columbus, Ohio.

By midnight, the temperature is forecast to fall to 44 degrees in Dallas and Atlanta, 23 degrees in Minneapolis and Denver, 70 in Miami and 41 in Seattle.
