Met Gala 2025: Nicole Kidman shows off dramatic short hair
Nicole Kidman showed off a short new hairdo on the Met Gala carpet Monday night.
The "Holland" actress hit the blue carpet in a tailored black dress in accordance with the evening's dress code, "Tailored for You," which took inspiration from the Costume Institute exhibit-aligned theme "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style."
The theme "examin[es] the importance of clothing and style to the formation of Black identities in the Atlantic diaspora" with the Black dandy as its subject, according to Vogue.
Kidman's hair, which was a shorter style from past carpets, was cropped in the back and showed off the nape of her neck. It also featured a sideswept bang.
"I wanted something tailor-made for me," Kidman said about her outfit, speaking with Vogue on Monday night. "I spoke to Anna [Wintour], and she said, 'Tailor made. Remember, that is the theme. Tailor made for you.'"
She continued, "And then this kind of was inspired in support of all of those gorgeous, gorgeous dandies and the women that honored them and supported them, so I'm happy to be here as one of them."
Kidman added that she looked forward to "celebrating fashion and couture" at the gala.
The Met Gala was first organized and presided over by Anna Wintour in 1995 and is recognized as one of fashion's biggest nights. It also functions as a fundraiser for the Costume Institute and aligns with the opening of its annual fashion exhibition.
This year's theme and accompanying Costume Institute exhibit take inspiration from Monica L. Miller's 2009 book "Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity," according to Vogue.
The dress code, "Tailored for You," is "a nod to the exhibition's focus on suiting and menswear, from specific silhouettes to various fabrics and accessories -- that is purposefully designed to both provide guidance and invite creative interpretation," according to a press release.
