Actor Will Poulter, one of the newest additions to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, is opening up about his turn in the forthcoming "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3."

Poulter, who most recently appeared opposite Michael Keaton in the Hulu series "Dopesick," plays the super-powered, artificially grown "perfect human" Adam Warlock in the third installment of the James Gunn-directed movie series.

The character first appeared in Marvel Comics in 1967, and was last teased — albeit still inside a cocoon — in a mid-credits scene from "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2," which premiered in 2017.

Poulter auditioned for the role in June 2021 and was cast in September that same year.

The actor spoke with ABC Audio on Wednesday while promoting his new thriller, "The Score," and said that working on the Marvel film, which recently wrapped shooting, was "really fun."

"So [it's] been a bit of a kind of rollercoaster, but one that I'm very, very glad that I was invited onto," Poulter said. "The 'Guardians' clan is just this, like, amazing, wonderfully weird group, and I couldn't be prouder and more grateful to have been welcomed into it."

Gunn recently shared photos from the film's final day of shooting, and said he had to fight from "sobbing" in closing the trilogy.

"Yeah, I can believe it's incredibly emotional for him," Poulter said. "You know, a sort of 10-year journey."

Poulter said he has "an immense amount of respect and appreciation" for Gunn, calling him "such a talented guy, such a lovely guy, so fun to work for."

"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3" releases in theaters on May 5, 2023.

Marvel Studios is owned by Disney, the parent company of ABC News and "Good Morning America."
