5 things we learned about 'Star Wars' shows at Star Wars Celebration 2023

The Force was strong at the 2023 Star Wars Celebration in London over the weekend.

Some of the biggest names in the "Star Wars" universe gathered at ExCeL Exhibition Centre for three days centered on the franchise that has transported fans across the galaxy for more than 45 years.

In addition to three new "Star Wars" movies being announced, there were also teases for five new "Star Wars" shows.

Not only did fans hear what they can expect from shows they already know, including "The Mandalorian" and "Andor," but "Good Morning America" also has teases for upcoming projects like "Ahsoka," "The Acolyte" and "Skeleton Crew."

"The Mandalorian"

With season 3 of "The Mandalorian" winding down in the coming weeks, fans may be wondering what lies ahead for Pedro Pascal's Din Djarin and his trusty sidekick Grogu.

At the top of the list of threats is Moff Gideon (Giancarlo Esposito), who is still at large in the galaxy and likely has an axe to grind with the duo.

"I think you might get a glimpse of is what he really wants," Esposito said, teasing that "great surprises are coming."

When asked if it's the Darksaber he wants most, Esposito said, "Well, the blade is one thing I would love to recapture, of course. But there's also that pesky child."

As for whether or not fans can expect a season 4, creator Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni didn't fall for any Jedi mind tricks and refused to let any secrets slip.

"Andor"

"Andor" season 1 captivated fans with its unique approach to telling a "Star Wars" story, and star Diego Luna (Cassian Andor) teased that season 2 would be "even more intense" than the first.

"Even though it's called 'Andor,' it's an ensemble and it's about a revolution and it's about many characters," Luna said of the show's depth of storytelling.

He continued, "It's going to be intense for audiences because we have to hear all these stories, and there has to be time for all of that."

Series creator Tony Gilroy took a different approach to teasing the forthcoming second season, joking that "it's a comedy now."

"Ahsoka"

We got our first look at "Ahsoka" thanks to a teaser trailer that debuted at Star Wars Celebration, continuing the live-action story of the titular character -- played by Rosario Dawson -- seen on "The Mandalorian."

Dawson had fans in mind when teasing the show.

"I hope it will surprise them and take them on a journey and surprise them in the way the animation has done," Dawson said, referring to the series "Star Wars Rebels," which was a true showcase for Ahsoka Tano.

"Ahsoka," premiering on Disney+ this August, will also feature more characters from "Rebels" making their way to live-action, including Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Hera Syndulla, Natasha Liu Bordizzo as Sabine Wren, C1-10P (aka Chopper) and baddie Thrawn.

"The Acolyte"

Little is known about the forthcoming series "The Acolyte," and it seems that will remain true for the time being.

Series star Amandla Stenberg did offer a brief tease of her character, however. "She is contending with the light and the dark within her," she said.

The official synopsis for "The Acolyte" says the show explores "a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era," a time period which occurred centuries prior to the events of "Star Wars: The Phantom Menace."

It continues, "A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes but discovers the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated."

In addition to Stenberg, the cast of "The Acolyte," streaming on Disney+ in 2024, also includes Lee Jung-jae, Manny Jacinto, Dafne Keen, Jodie Turner-Smith, Rebecca Henderson, Charlie Barnett, Dean-Charles Chapman and Carrie-Anne Moss.

"Skeleton Crew"

Jude Law, who leads the cast of "Skeleton Crew," said there were many "pinch-me moments" for him as he made his "Star Wars" debut, calling it an "extraordinary" experience.

The series, which is set to stream on Disney+ later in 2023, is described as following "the journey of four kids who make a mysterious discovery on their seemingly safe home planet, then get lost in a strange and dangerous galaxy."

"Finding their way home -- and meeting unlikely allies and enemies -- will be a greater adventure than they ever imagined," the description continues.

In addition to Law, the cast of "Skeleton Crew" also includes Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Ryan Kiera Armstrong, Kyriana Kratter, Robert Timothy Smith, Tunde Adebimpe and Kerry Condon.
