Bonnie Tyler out of coma 'but remains very unwell,' her family says
Singer Bonnie Tyler is still recovering after undergoing surgery in May.
The "Total Eclipse of the Heart" singer's family shared a statement on her website on Monday with an update about the 75-year-old's condition after undergoing emergency intestinal surgery in May and being put in a medically induced coma.
"Bonnie is no longer in a coma but remains very unwell and in intensive care in hospital in Portugal," the family said in the statement. "Although her condition is improving it is a slow process. Her doctors remain confident that she will make a good recovery but it is going to take time."
Tyler’s rep confirmed in May that doctors had put the "Total Eclipse of the Heart" singer in a medically induced coma to aid in her recovery from intestinal surgery. A statement at the time on her website said that Tyler's doctors were "positive that she will make a full recovery."
As for upcoming tour dates, her family and team said that they will be "cancelling, or postponing until next year where possible, all of our remaining shows this summer."
"This will affect every current show until the end of August. At present we are still hopeful that our shows in the autumn will go ahead," the statement continued.
Tyler did have some shows scheduled for 2026, and the post apologizes to fans “for the disappointment that this will cause."
“We would like to thank everyone for the huge outpouring of love and support from all over the world that we have received for Bonnie and want to tell you that she is aware of, and very grateful for, your good wishes,” the post continues. “Bonnie’s family continue to ask for privacy and promise that we will issue further updates as soon as there are significant developments to share.”
ABC News has reached out to representatives for Tyler for comment.
Tyler is known for a series of hit songs from the 1980s.
"Total Eclipse of the Heart" topped charts in multiple countries, including the U.S., U.K., Canada and Australia and was nominated for a Grammy in 1984 for Best Female Pop Vocal Performance.
She's also known for "Holding Out For a Hero," "It's a Heartache" and more.
Tyler released her 18th studio album, "The Best is Yet to Come," in 2021.
