What to know about Evenflo's voluntary car seat recall of more than 324K products
Evenflo has voluntarily recalled more than 324,000 car seats after finding foam materials in the headrest "could pose a potential choking hazard."
According to the company and a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the foam headrest on certain Revolve360 Slim car seat models is accessible to children, enabling them to potentially reach beneath the headrest cover and pick off pieces of foam.
The agency said Evenflo received a report back in October 2023 "of a child picking at the foam of the product headrest and placing in in their mouth."
"Evenflo is currently aware of a total of 11 reports that children accessed foam in the headrest of the variants of the Revolve360 Slim constituting the recall population and placed it in either their mouth or nose," the NHTSA said in its report. "Evenflo is also aware of twelve additional reports of children accessing the foam (though not ingesting it)."
According to an announcement posted on Evenflo's website, the recall only impacts "specific Revolve360 Slim models sold in the U.S. and Canada with model numbers beginning with 3681."
According to the company, the foam itself is nontoxic.
"This issue does not affect the safety or integrity of the car seat in the event of a crash and at this time, we have no knowledge of any incidents resulting in injury," it stated.
Model numbers for recalled seats can be found on the product label on the back of the car seat shell, according to Evenflo. To locate the model number, the company instructed consumers to "rotate the car seat to a side-facing position, and you will find the white label with the date of manufacture and model number on the instruction manual storage location."
No other Evenflo car seat models are affected.
In its announcement, the company said it is "working to address this issue quickly and responsibly" and providing free recall repair kits to affected customers, which are expected to be shipped in early November.
"Free recall repair kits, including easy-to-use instructions and protective materials to block access to the foam, will be sent to all customers for whom Evenflo has contact information, including registered owners, of all recalled models," the company said, noting that consumers should register their car seat with Evenflo to ensure they receive a repair kit.
"Families may continue to use their car seats safely if the foam remains intact and out of reach," the company continued. "Your child's safety is our top priority, and we're committed to making this process as simple and supportive as possible."
It added, "Please do not attempt to return your car seat to a retailer."
The NHTSA has assigned recall 25C010 to this issue, it said.
