'Romy and Michele' sequel in production
Production has begun for the sequel for "Romy and Michele's High School Reunion."
20th Century Studios shared a photo of Mira Sorvino and Lisa Kudrow sitting in director's chairs with the words "Romy and Michele 2" displayed on the back.
"The reunion you’ve been waiting for! The Romy and Michele sequel is now in production," the caption reads.
Sorvino also took to the comments section and wrote, "It's finally happening. Bursting with joy to be 'reunited!'"
News about the sequel for the beloved 1997 film was announced in January 2025 with Sorvino and Kudrow reprising their roles as Romy White and Michele Weinberger, respectively.
Tim Federle, who is slated to direct the highly anticipated film, shared the photo of Sorvino and Kudrow on set, writing on Instragram, "The reunion you’ve been waiting for! The Romy and Michele sequel is now in production."

Along with Sorvino and Kudrow, Robin Schiff, who originally penned the screenplay for the film nearly 30 years ago, is returning as the screenwriter.
"Romy and Michele's High School Reunion" followed two best friends, Romy and Michele, who decide to create fake careers to impress former classmates at their 10-year high school reunion. Over the years, the film has become a cult classic.
Alan Cumming, Janeane Garofalo, Elaine Hendrix, Julia Campbell and Justin Theroux also starred in the original film.
Details about the film and its plot are still being kept under wraps.
