BabyNames.com changes home page to honor slain black Americans: They were 'somebody's baby'
Babynames.com, a popular website that lists baby naming trends for expecting parents, turned its homepage into a somber tribute, honoring those who've been killed by police and civilians.
"Each one of these names was somebody's baby," the site reads, before listing names of over a hundred people who've died at the hands of law enforcement and neighborhood watch coordinators among others, including Eric Garner, Breonna Taylor, Trayvon Martin, Michael Brown, Ahmaud Arbery and George Floyd.
"Family is very important to us and we wanted to bring the message across that these people were loved and they have families that miss them," Babynames.com founder and CEO Jennifer Moss explained to ABC News. "We wanted to make a statement in support of Black Lives Matter."
In recent days companies like Disney, Amazon, Nike and more have come out with their own statements condemning systemic racism and racial injustice in American society.
"We had no idea our tribute would get so much attention, but we're glad we could bring focus to the issue and participate in the message," Moss said.
The baby naming company has also pushed out names included on their Black Lives Matter list across company social media accounts.
Moss said the Black Lives Matter masthead went live Monday and will remain until further notice.
