Kylie Kelce on facing 'severe baby blues' after welcoming eldest daughter
Kylie Kelce opened up about early motherhood challenges after she and her husband Jason Kelce welcomed their first child, daughter Wyatt.
During her appearance on the "Sunday Sports Club" podcast on Jan. 12, Kylie Kelce recalled experiencing perinatal depression following Wyatt's birth five years ago.
"I have had periods of my life where I truly believe I was experiencing postpartum," she shared. "I know with Wyatt that I had severe baby blues. We left the hospital, and I was like, 'So you're telling me this is mine?'"
She explained that things started to feel easier once Wyatt hit a significant stage.
"The biggest milestone for me with Wyatt was when she could smile on purpose," she said. "Because it showed that there was a connection. Most people will take their baby home, and it's sensationalized social media of, 'Look at how beautiful my baby is.' No my baby cried from bewitching hour at 8 p.m. until 4 a.m. if I wasn't holding her or if she wasn't on my boob."
"We were not cool," she added jokingly of her early relationship with her eldest daughter.
The term "baby blues" refers to mild, short-lived mood changes like worry, unhappiness, and exhaustion that many women experience within the first two weeks after giving birth, according to the National Institutes of Health (NIH). With babies requiring constant care, it's common for new mothers to feel tired or overwhelmed.
NIH notes that perinatal depression, which is more severe, has no single cause but results from a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Contributing factors may include life stress (such as work demands or past trauma), the physical and emotional toll of childbirth and caregiving, and hormonal changes during and after pregnancy.
In addition to Wyatt, Kylie Kelce and Jason Kelce are also parents to two other daughters, Elliotte and Bennett. The couple announced in November 2024 that they are expecting another child.
Following the announcement, Jason Kelce, who retired from the NFL in March, opened up about how his kids reacted to the pregnancy news in the Nov. 27 episode of his "New Heights" podcast with brother Travis Kelce.
"Ellie is happy she's no longer the middle child," he said at the time. "Wyatt is like, 'This is too much,' and Benny is no longer the baby in a few months."
He also expressed his excitement for his growing family, adding, "I just love my daughters so much -- the fact that we're going to be getting another one is beyond exciting."
